It’s recommended you see a dentist to maintain regular check-ups every six to nine months or more frequently if you have specific oral health needs. During a regular check-up, we discuss overall health as well as any changes in medication, diet and lifestyle. Understanding these influences help us to get a bigger picture of your oral health.
X-rays are recommended every 12 to 24 months as a standard preventive dental practice. They provide important information about your teeth, gums and jaw bone that can’t be seen with the naked eye. Our diagnostic tools include:
White fillings seal the gaps in teeth caused by tooth decay and help prevent more bacteria from getting in. White fillings are made from composite resin and are available in different shades so they can be matched to your natural tooth colour. Fillings are a minimally invasive treatment and can last between 5 to 15 years on average.
Tooth grinding (also known as bruxism) and jaw clenching is a common oral health concern that is typically brought on by stress and other lifestyle factors. In most cases, the problem goes away on its own without causing too much damage, but if you grind your teeth over an extended period of time, it can wear down teeth and lead to jaw joint pain.
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a sleep disorder that is thought to affect one in ten Australian adults. It occurs during sleep when your tongue and throat muscles relax and narrow the upper airway, causing you to stop and start breathing repeatedly. Wearing an oral appliance or mandibular advancement device (MAD) while you sleep, helps to shift the jaw slightly forward and keep the airway open, alleviating mild to moderate symptoms of sleep apnoea. If you think you have OSA, your doctor or dentist can refer you to a sleep specialist for a diagnosis.
Root canal therapy (endodontic treatment) is used to save a severely decayed or cracked tooth that has been affected by bacteria. When tooth decay extends into the tooth’s inner layer, the soft tissue or dental pulp gets infected and can cause significant pain. Root canal therapy involves deep cleaning and shaping of the tooth roots, filling it and then sealing it with a crown.
Wisdom teeth can be a problem is there is not enough room for them to grow in the mouth and they partially erupt or become impacted and cause pain. When a partially erupted wisdom tooth can’t be properly cleaned, decay can form around the gums and soft tissues surrounding the tooth and form an infection.
Our dentists can provide wisdom teeth removal and other extractions, in-chair under local anaesthetic or IV sedation (sleep dentistry), or alternatively in hospital under IV sedation or general anaesthetic.
If you experience anxiety, a dental phobia or any medical condition that may inhibit you from getting treatment, it may be worth considering sleep dentistry.
Also known as IV sedation, this form of sedation allows patients to be treated in a relaxed, semi-conscious state with little to no recollection of the procedure. In addition to sleep dentistry, EVP Dental provide a range of other sedation options to help you get the care you need.

A dental crown is an artificial tooth that can be used to save a cracked, discoloured or decayed tooth and can also be used to replace a missing tooth using a dental implant. A crown is a porcelain made cap that sits over the existing tooth and is shaped and colour-matched to perfectly blend in with your existing teeth.
Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They can be a suitable cosmetic treatment option to mask small, discoloured, worn, crooked, crowded or even gapped teeth.
Porcelain veneers in particular, are popular cosmetic dental treatment for that ‘Hollywood’ look, as they appear more natural and translucent than composite resin veneers.
Treatment involves removing a very thin layer of tooth and then take an impression to be used to create your veneers. Finally, the veneers are fitted and adjustments are made before they are bonded into place.
Teeth whitening is what people usually think of when they think of cosmetic dentistry.
Professional teeth whitening can help to restore the whiteness in your smile and can be provided in a single appointment or combined with other treatments as part of a comprehensive smile makeover plan.
Our cosmetic dentists use Philips ZOOM! professional teeth whitening both in the chair and for take-home treatments! Discover how you can achieve a smile up to 8 shades whiter.
Teeth straightening or orthodontics can help improve the functionality and aesthetics of your smile.
As well as helping to create a straighter smile, teeth straightening treatment also helps correct bite and jaw alignment issues and improves your oral health by making brushing and flossing easier.
A smile makeover combines several cosmetic dental treatments within one treatment plan to aesthetically enhance the overall appearance of your smile.
If you have a number of cosmetic dental concerns, such as chipped, discoloured or crooked teeth, your dentist can customise a treatment plan to address those specific concerns over a number of visits. A treatment plan may combine tooth bonding, whitening and straightening, or alternatively veneers.

Tooth bonding uses a natural tooth-coloured composite resin to cover the appearance of small flaws such as chips, cracks and stains on the tooth. Bonding is inexpensive and can usually be done in a single appointment or combined with other cosmetic treatments over several visits.
Tooth bonding treatment begins with your tooth being prepared and tooth-coloured composite resin being moulded into the required shape to cover the flaw. Lastly, the resin is polished for a final finish.
