What Are Full Arch Dental Implants?
A full arch dental implant bridge is a complete set of teeth securely fixed onto dental implants.
Using between four to six implants, an entire upper or lower arch can be replaced—restoring both function and aesthetics.
Techniques such as All-on-4® are one of several approaches used to place full arch dental implants, depending on your individual bone structure and treatment needs.
In the past, replacing a full arch often required a dental implant for every missing tooth, involving more complex surgery, longer treatment times, and higher costs.
Today, with modern technology and advanced techniques, a full arch can be restored more efficiently and predictably, using fewer implants.
Benefits of Full Arch Dental Implants
Choosing a full mouth implant bridge can offer many benefits.
- Greater support and stability for a secure, natural feel
- Enhanced function and aesthetics – teeth look and feel like natural teeth
- Stimulates the jawbone and helps prevent bone loss
- Maintains facial structure – preventing hollowed cheeks and premature aging
- May reduce gum recession
- Stronger biting forces for a wider, more nutritious diet
- Simpler care routine – no separate cleaning products required
- Long-lasting results – can last 25 years to a lifetime with proper care
Am I Suitable?
If you’re missing multiple teeth, struggling with dentures, or dealing with ongoing dental problems, you may be suitable for full mouth dental implants, even f you have previously been told you don’t have enough bone.
Full mouth dental implants may be right for you if you:
- Have multiple missing, damaged, or failing teeth
- Wear dentures that feel loose, uncomfortable, or limiting
- Want a fixed, non-removable alternative to dentures
- Are looking for a long-term solution to restore function and appearance
- Are able to maintain good oral hygiene and regular dental care
Bone loss is common, especially if teeth have been missing for some time. However, modern techniques can often overcome this, including:
- Angled implant placement used in full arch dental implants All-on-4®)
- Bone grafting or sinus lift procedures
- Additional or longer pterygoid or zygoma implants for support
The only way to know for sure is to book a free comprehensive assessment and 3D scan.
Full Mouth Dental Implants vs. Dentures
For suitable clients, full mouth dental implants are typically the preferred solution for replacing a full set of teeth.

Your full arch bridge (the teeth) may include:
- PMMA acrylic – placed immediate after surgery

Our Revive Basic package features an acrylic bridge.
Monolithic Zirconia Teeth
Monolithic zirconia is a stronger, durable and natural-looking ceramic material. The bridge is milled from a single (monolithic) block of zirconia offering increased strength and stain resistance.
A zirconia bridge will typically last between 10 and 15 years before needing to be replaced. Bridge repairs may also be required over time.

How painful is getting a dental implant?
Getting a dental implant is usually not painful during the procedure, as the area is fully numbed with local anaesthetic and for larger treatments, often accompanied by sedation. Clients may report feeling pressure rather than pain. After surgery, it’s normal to experience mild to moderate discomfort for 3-4 days, which is typically managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
What does a dental implant feel like?
During the procedure:
- The area is numb, so you shouldn’t feel pain
- You may feel pressure or vibration if you are awake
- If you are sedated, do you not feel anything
After the procedure:
- Mild swelling and tenderness for 2–3 days
- Bruising or minor discomfort around the surgical site
How long does the pain last after a dental implant?
- First 24–72 hours: Most noticeable discomfort and swelling
- 3–7 days: Symptoms improve significantly
- After 1 week: Pain is usually minimal or gone
If pain worsens or doesn’t improve, contact your dental team immediately.
How does dental implant pain compare to other treatments?
Many clients say dental implant surgery is more comfortable than expected and often easier than a tooth extraction or wisdom teeth removal.
How is pain managed?
- Local anaesthetic during treatment
- Optional IV sedation or general anaesthesia for anxious patients or complex surgeries
- Pain relief medication after surgery
- Ice packs and aftercare instructions to reduce swelling
Quick summary
- Dental implant surgery is typically well-tolerated
- You won’t feel pain during the procedure
- Mild discomfort after surgery usually settles within a few days
- Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable it is

What are the disadvantages of dental implants?
Dental implants have a high success rate, but some potential disadvantages include higher upfront cost, the need for minor surgery, a small risk of implant failure, and a longer treatment timeline compared to other tooth replacement options.
Cost of dental implants
Dental implants are typically more expensive than dentures or dental bridges. However, they are designed to last longer, which may make them more cost-effective over time.Surgery and recovery
Dental implant treatment involves a minor surgical procedure. Most patients experience mild, temporary swelling or discomfort. As with any surgery, there is a small risk of infection or complications, which are carefully managed by your dental team.Risk of implant failure
In some cases, the implant may not integrate properly with the jawbone. While dental implants have a high success rate, factors such as smoking, poor oral hygiene, or certain medical conditions can increase the risk.Treatment time
The dental implant process usually takes several months and multiple appointments, including consultation, implant placement, healing, and final restoration.Read more on our treatment considerations and risks page.
Quick facts about dental implant risks
- Dental implants are a long-term tooth replacement option
- Most side effects are mild and temporary
- Success rates are high when treatment is carefully planned
- Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups help maintain results
-
What are the risks of All-on-4® dental implants?

- Damage to surrounding teeth or gums
- Delayed healing time in some patients
We’ll make sure you understand the possible risks before you consent to treatment.

Which dental implant system is All-on-4®?
Nobel Biocare, a swiss dental implant company owns the All-on-4® dental implant system.
However, All-on-4® also refers to the technique developed by Professor Paulo Malo for Nobel BioCare. The term All-on-4® refers to a full arch of teeth attached to four or more dental implants, and both the protocol and the dental implants themselves are registered trademarks of Nobel BioCare.
Our clinicians apply this expertise across other implant systems such as Southern Implants, to deliver full mouth dental implant treatment.

What is All-on-4®?
All-on-4® is a full-arch dental implant treatment used to replace all missing or failing teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Rather than replacing each tooth individually, a complete bridge of teeth is supported by four strategically placed dental implants.
The technique was developed by Nobel Biocare and involves placing two implants towards the front of the jaw and two implants towards the back at an angle. This approach can often maximise the use of available bone and may reduce or eliminate the need for bone grafting in suitable patients.
All-on-4® has become one of the most widely used full-mouth dental implant solutions worldwide and has demonstrated high long-term success rates of up to 98% in clinical studies*.
The term All-on-4® is a registered trademark of Nobel Biocare and specifically refers to the treatment concept when used with Nobel Biocare implants.
Today, many clinicians use similar treatment protocols with four, five, six or more implants depending on the patient's anatomy, bone quality and treatment goals. As a result, you may also hear terms such as All-on-X, which refers more broadly to full-arch dental implant treatment supported by a customised number of implants.
For patients requiring full-mouth rehabilitation, the number of implants used is less important than selecting the treatment approach best suited to their individual needs.

How long do full mouth dental implants last?
Full mouth dental implants can last decades or even a lifetime, as the titanium implants fuse with the jawbone and have a very high long-term success rate. However, the attached teeth (bridge) will wear over time and may need to be replaced depending on the material used.
How long do full mouth implant teeth last?
At Perth Dental Implant Centre, full mouth treatment is completed in stages through our Revive packages:
- Revive Basic (custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge for an immediate solution):
A fixed custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge is used as your initial set of teeth and typically lasts 1–2 years before replacement. - Revive Essential (custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) → ceramic upgrade for a long-term solution):
Includes an custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge (1–2 years), followed by a stronger ceramic or zirconia bridge, which can last 10–15 years or more. - Revive Advanced (designed for complex cases):
Includes both stages, with a focus on specialised techniques and long-term durability using high-quality ceramic or zirconia materials designed for 10–15+ years of use. You can learn more about Revive packages on our Prices page.
What affects how long full mouth dental implants last?
The lifespan of your implants and bridge depends on several factors:
- Material of the teeth: Custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) vs ceramic/zirconia
- Clinician experience: Planning and surgical precision are critical
- Oral hygiene: Daily care and professional cleaning
- Bite forces: Grinding or clenching can increase wear*
- Ongoing maintenance: Regular check-ups help extend lifespan
*All our Revive packages include a custom-fitted nightguard to protect your investment.
Do full mouth dental implants need to be replaced?
- Implants (titanium posts): Designed to last long-term
- Bridge (teeth): Will need repairs and/or replacement over time due to normal wear
With proper care, both custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) and zirconia bridges may last longer than average.
Quick summary
- Full mouth dental implants can last decades or longer
- Custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridges typically last 1–2 years

Why do All-on-4® dental implant costs differ so much?
All-on-4® costs vary because of several factors including the skill, training and experience of the dentist placing your implants; and person designing your new teeth; the quality of teeth and dental implants; and treatment plan inclusions.
1. Skill, training and experience of the dentist
General dentists Dr David Norcross and Dr David O'Dowling have restricted their practice to restoring smiles with dental implants and have completed extensive advanced training in implant and restorative dentistry. Both dentists also lead clinical education courses in advanced implant dentistry, helping dentists further develop their skills and expertise in implant treatment.
2. Skill, training and experience of the dental technician
All of our full mouth implant bridges are custom-designed by highly experienced dental technicians. Perth Dental Implant Centre uses a local lab and onsite lab to design full mouth bridges that are high in quality, durability and aesthetics that complement your face, age and personality.
3. The type and quality of replacement teeth
Our dental implant packages offer a number of teeth replacement options and materials to suit your aesthetic and financial needs. Replacement teeth materials have different strengths, durability, aesthetic features and longevity.
4. Type and quality of dental implants
Perth Dental Implant Centre can place any implant system you choose. However, for full arch replacement we offer pricing packages using two high quality implant systems: Nobel BioCare and Southern Implants.
5. Treatment plan inclusions
All treatment plans include clinical radiographs and review appointments at two and four weeks after treatment. If you choose to upgrade your teeth after 3 to 4 months of your mouth healing post-surgery, we’ll include this item in your treatment plan.

Why do I need an initial custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge? Can’t I just get a zirconia bridge?
Zirconia bridges are milled from solid blocks of pure zirconia, a high-quality tooth material that’s known for its strength and aesthetics. Zirconia bridges take between 2 to 4 weeks to manufacture.
In the week following dental implant surgery, the jaw bone begins to soften around the implants, starting a healing process known as osseointegration. A tooth bridge needs to be attached to implants in the first 7 days of surgery, while the bone is still rigid enough to hold it in place. This is why an custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge is placed first.
Once jaw bone and dental implants properly fuse together over 3 to 4 months, new impressions can be taken to design a long-term zirconia bridge. Otherwise there is no rush as your custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge can last up to 2 years on average with proper care.
When it’s time to replace your bridge, you can choose from another custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge at $2,000 per arch or $3,500 for both, or a long-term zirconia bridge, which may last between 10 to 15 years on average, or longer. Zirconia bridges start from $10,500 per arch.
Custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridges are custom-milled by our expert team at our in-house dental laboratory.
-
What sedation options are available for dental implant surgery?
Dental implant surgery is normally carried out under local anaesthesia to numb the mouth, preventing any pain, however we also offer oral sedation and sleep dentistry (IV sedation) if you prefer to be sedated during surgery. Alternatively, you can undergo implant treatment under general anaesthesia at Southbank Day Surgery.
-
What are fixed implant bridges made of?
Fixed implant bridges are natural looking and are made using a combination of bridge materials. Perth Dental Implant Centres provides single tooth implants and fixed small implant bridges using full contour (monolithic) zirconia.
A zirconia bridge attaches to high-grade titanium dental implants.
Fixed implant bridges (also known as All-on-4®, full arch or full mouth dental implants) replace all missing teeth are made of custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) as the first set of teeth placed after surgery.
A zirconia bridge may replace an custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge from three to four months after surgery. An custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge may last between 1 and 2 years before needing to be replaced, while a zirconia bridge may last between 10 to 15 years, or longer with proper care.
-
What is the fixed implant bridge process?
Our process for a fixed full mouth dental implant bridge (also known as All-on-4®) involves a free implant consultation with your dentist, 3D scan and clinical photographs of your mouth to plan implant treatment, followed by surgery where implants are placed into the bone.
If bone grafting is needed to support your new bridge, it will be done during surgery.
Within 24 hours, we attached your custom-milled PMMA (acrylic) bridge to your dental implants, which are left to heal over three to four months.
We provide you with care instructions for your new teeth and arrange review appointments at two weeks and four weeks after surgery. You may choose to upgrade to a long-term zirconia bridge after this time or keep your first bridge for a little longer.
Smaller fixed bridges that replace fewer teeth generally follow the same process as single tooth implant treatment.

What are the risks with dental implant treatment?
Success rates for dental implant treatment in Australia is very high at 90-98%, according to the Australian Dental Association (ADA). Dental implant treatment completed overseas doesn’t always follow the same success and we often treat patients with failed implants. Read more about dental implants overseas. Dental implant treatment risks may include:
- Speech problems
- Gum tissue growth
- Infection
- Bone loss
- Loose implant
- Loose tooth
- Tooth problems
General surgical risks and specific risks to implant surgery also apply and are discussed with you prior to treatment. Careful planning and precision surgery by a suitably qualified dentist is essential to minimising any risks of surgery.
-
What is a fixed implant bridge?
A fixed implant bridge is a row of prosthetic teeth (known as a bridge) supported and stabilised by dental implants placed in the jaw bone. Dental implants behave like tooth roots helping to preserve jaw bone and facial structure and supporting surrounding natural teeth. A fixed implant bridge is permanently attached to your implants can only be removed by your dentist.
